MARAD: U.S. Short Almost 2,000 Mariners to Supply American Forces in War

If push comes to shove, the U.S. doesn’t have enough mariners to move tanks, personnel carriers, ammunition, medicines, food and water into a hot zone in a prolonged crisis, the head of the Maritime Administration said Thursday. The U.S. is short about 1,800 mariners, Retired Rear Adm. Mark Buzby told a joint hearing of the House Armed Services readiness and seapower and projection forces subcommittees.
