The Navy’s silent service is making some noise about wanting more female enlisted sailors to earn their dolphins and serve aboard submarines, according to the chief of naval personnel.
CAPITOL HILL — Lawmakers Friday morning challenged the military personnel chiefs to redouble their efforts recruiting and retaining female service-members because not doing so means potentially missing out on selecting the best from half the nation’s talent pool.
Recent challenges to Navy recruiting and retention have left the sea service 11,000 sailors short of its required manpower level in the short term, and about 50,000 sailors short of the estimated force needed to crew a 355-ship fleet. Read More
