Carrier Lincoln Preparing for Deployment After Several High-End Training Opportunities

Warships Conduct First East Coast SWATT Advanced Training For Carrier Escorts

In a first for East Coast-based carrier strike group escorts, warships from the Abraham Lincoln CSG are participating in a surface warfare advanced tactical training (SWATT) exercise in a push to standardize similar training throughout the fleet.

Kearsarge ARG Completes First East Coast SWATT Advanced Training Event

The Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) recently completed a Surface Warfare Advanced Tactical Training (SWATT), the first time the such an exercise was conducted off the East Coast and signifying the Navy’s commitment to standardize training for both Pacific and Atlantic-based amphibs.

When Lt. Cmdr. Katie Whitman deployed on USS Mobile Bay (CG-53) five years ago, she was expected to support the cruiser in its air defense commander role but wasn’t guaranteed much individual training for that mission.

As it happened, leadership in the John C. Stennis Carrier Strike Group was “forward-leaning” when it came to pursuing additional pre-deployment training opportunities, she told USNI News, but another lieutenant on another cruiser may have deployed overseas without much knowledge of advanced tactics for that mission set or practice handling complex air warfare scenarios.
