U.S. Navy Growing P-8 Poseidon Operations in the Western Pacific
The U.S. Navy is cutting its teeth on the new Boeing P-8A Poseidon long range maritime Multi-Mission Aircraft with deployments to the U.S. 7th Fleet Area of Responsibility (AOR), with the third rotation of the type currently ongoing at Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan since the first one began at the end of 2013. A typical deployment to Kadena lasts between six to seven months, and currently consists of a single squadron of Lockheed Martin P-3C Orions and one of P-8As to demonstrate the ability of the two platforms to operate effectively in a high-tempo environment. NAVAIR: P-8A Poseidon Ready for Deployment
The Navy’s next-generation manned maritime information, surveillance and reconnaissance has been certified to enter regular service, according to a Naval Air Systems Command statement issued late Monday.
The P-8A Poseidon passed an Initial Operational Test and Evaluation that found the aircraft, “operationally effective, operationally suitable and ready for fleet introduction.” Read More
Okinawa F-15 Crashes, Pilot Safe
An U.S. Air Force pilot is safe after the pilot’s F-15 crashed 70 miles from Okinawa, according to a release from the service.
“Japan Air Self Defense Force rescue squadron crews safely recovered the pilot who ejected from a Kadena-based F-15 aircraft over the Pacific Ocean approximately 70 miles east of Okinawa at around 9 a.m. May 27,” according to the statement. Read More
