The America Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) and 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) – which deployed July 10, 2017, from San Diego – is headed east for the final drive home.

The ARG includes amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA-6), amphibious dock landing ship USS Pearl Harbor (LSD-52) and amphibious transport dock USS San Diego (LPD-22).

The Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group continues to head west. With carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76) tied up in maintenance for a couple months, the Vinson Strike Group is operating the Western Pacific for a short deployment just seven months after returning from the region. USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) is expected to enter the Western Pacific at a time the Navy’s only permanently forward-deployed aircraft carrier is moored in its homeport of Yokosuka, Japan, for a planned maintenance period. Navy officials say the repairs will last a couple of months.

Some press reports indicate the Carl Vinson Strike Group will operate in the vicinity of Korea for the Winter Olympics.
