Video: NATO Black Sea Exercise Sea Shield 2017

The following is a Feb. 17, 2017 video from NATO Channel shows ships and aircraft from Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 Task Unit 2 participating in Romanian-hosted Exercise Sea Shield 2017 in the Black Sea: Canadian frigate HMCS St John’s (FFH-340), Romanian frigate ROS Regele Ferdinand (F221) and Spanish frigate ESPS Almirante Juan de Borb√≥n (F-102).

  • Worldwise

The Spanish Air Warfare Frigates are a nice class of ships.

The Canadians are the ones with the heavy duty experience, with special expertise in boarding. I understand in the Gulf the Canadians were doing upwards of 90% of all boardings of foreign vessels – they have this integrated team approach plus some real hardcore warriors who were outstanding at this. Their frigates have seen a lot of miles under the bow, but they are very seaworthy vessels.

The ROS frigate is a retired Type 22 is it not?

Indeed it is an old Type 22.

It might be naughty to say that Romania has more RN frigates at sea than the Royal Navy have!
